It’s good for what it is, but a lot of other reviews are comparing Hard West 2 to XCOM. While the combat system is pretty deep and (so far) fun, know that this is more of a puzzle game than a strategy game.

The game is linear with manicured combat encounters, meaning you ‘solve’ the combat, you don’t really use tactics to get through it. Do a dry run of the mission, figure out what you’re up against, and what the bonus objectives are, outfit your squad for the enemy and to meet the bonus objectives, rinse and repeat. The combat system is good enough that it’s practically screaming for actual sanbox mechanics, but it is what it is.
